Heliotropism
Heliotropism is the word that describes the movement of some plants, including sunflowers, towards the sun. They do this as the sun is a crucial requirement of photosynthesis, allowing plants to grow and bloom. Coaching conversations, in which you are seen, heard and encouraged to think creatively, can encourage a similar personal and professional growth.
The power of words
One of the roles of a coach is to help you establish clarity. By listening to what you are saying, as well as what you aren't, by listening for themes and noticing non-verbal clues such as body language, your coach can help you to verbalise your thoughts and feelings. This, in turn leads to the creation of concrete goals and actions. Understanding people is a skill I have been mastering for the last 19 years, engaging with teenagers and teaching modern languages in a range of schools.
Van Gogh
Last autumn, I sat in an oversized deckchair in a huge warehouse, at an immersive Van Gogh experience. Gargantuan sunflowers, stars, wheat fields, as well as various quotes were projected floor to ceiling. As I stared around me, taking it all in, I realised that Van Gogh had a wise word or two to say, and some of his ideas resonate with a coaching approach. One of his most famous sets of paintings are 'Sunflowers', hence Mirasol Coaching.
'Normality is a paved road. It’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow on it. '
'What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?'
'Great things are done not by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.'
'The beginning is perhaps more difficult than all else but keep heart; it will turn out alright.'
'I am always doing what I cannot do yet, in order to learn how to do it.'

I completed the Certificate in Effective Coaching though In Good Company UK Ltd. This Ofqual regulated qualification covered a wide range of topics, in particular the Global Code of Ethics, to which I adhere. You can read more about this by clicking the button below.
I lead the Learning and Teaching group at my school and plan and deliver a wide range of training sessions to teachers both from my school and from other institutions. I regularly coach colleagues as part of their professional development.
Whilst many young children's dream is to be an astronaut or magician, mine was to write textbooks (!) There is not a hint of sarcasm in this. I realised my dream by writing content for a current A level German textbook.
I am a secondary school teacher of French, German and Spanish, having been Head of Department for many years. I gain a huge amount from being a parent governor at my local Infant School.
What does being a mother bring to me as a coach? Parenthood has taught me how underrated the quality of patience is. It's taught me to see joy in the tiny details of life (searching for a 'two-er' lego brick in a particular colour and finally finding it). It's also meant I'm a whizz at task prioritisation, organisation and recognising that if I regularly prioritise my own well-being, I'll have more to give everyone else.
